Eat healthy, Eat bacteria!

Ever thought about eating your vitamins through bacteria? B12 is one of those vitamins that doesn't come from plant foods. Instead, it comes from animals or bacteria. This is why strict vegetarians should take a B12 supplement.

Foods that have live bacteria in them can improve digestion, immune system function and perhaps reduce allergic reactions and inflammation. Nothing wrong with any of that!

The term "pro-biotic" refers to foods that can increase the growth of friendly bacteria in the body. You will see this used a lot with regards to yogurts. A live culture of bacteria have been introduced into the yogurt, making it even more conducive to promoting the growth of healthy bacteria. So what other kinds of foods can do this?

Yogurt
Sauerkraut
Sourdough bread
Kimchi
Soy Sauce
Miso

For athletes who train hard, it's important to do everything you can to keep yourself healthy. Nothing worse than losing ground because you don't eat healthfully. Taking supplements is not a substitute for healthy eating. In fact, the supplements are even less likely to provide ANY benefit if your diet is poor to begin with.
