Liquid Calories Can Add Up

In a recent study called the Premier study, participants were getting nearly 350 kcals from beverages. That is nearly 1/5 of their total daily kcals. There are certainly more people who get more than that. Just the Starbuck's Lattes alone can be 350 kcals. One margarita can rack that many up. As an athlete, you don't want to consume calories you don't need, and especially if they are kcals that can be easily stored as fat (like alcohol). Be careful. Don't drink your calories, eat them. Let your beverages be primarily water. Low fat milk twice a day is great, and fruit juice a couple times a day is good, too. They are packed with other important nutritious items. Sodas, sweet teas and coffees, protein drinks, fruit smoothies, etc. can be a sneaky enemy. Be sure you know where your calories are coming from!

Eat to train.
