OMG! EAT MORE YOGURT

I know, it's kind of a weird topic for a blog. I couldn't help it. I am always looking for great yogurts and for ways to get people to eat more of it. Yogurt is so great and so under eaten in the states. Europe gets it. The Mediterranean gets it. India gets it. We don't really get it. Time to change that.
First of all, I am not talking about Danon fruited yogurt or Yoplait. You can eat those if you want, but that's not REAL yogurt. I am talking about the different plain yogurts and vanilla yogurts that are out there. Ok, don't lose me. I promise to give you some info that you can really use.

Go to the grocery store (higher end ones will have a better selection) and look at the yogurts in the larger containers. Yes, the big ones. Like 16 oz and larger. There you will see plain and vanilla options. Brands to look for....Brown Cow, Danon, Stonyfield Farms, Horizon. Of these, Brown Cow is my favorite for the vanilla. Get the low or nonfat version. The regular is FANTASTIC, but much higher in fat and calories.

Plain yogurt can be used as the basis for dips, drinks, smoothies and more. There are lots of different varieties of plain yogurt and it really depends on what you are going to use it for. "Total" is a brand that can be used for anything, including cooking. See the pictures above to help find the brands I'm talking about. Vanilla yogurt can be used in many of the same ways, you are just already starting with a slightly sweetened product.

Yogurt is great because it is a pretty affordable source of protein and calcium. It is easy to use and extremely versatile. It also keeps the GI tract in good health.....and nobody wants THAT to be out of whack! :))

Anytime you can use a food for cooking in multiple ways, it's a food you should get to know and become friends with. Especially all you GUYS! Yogurt is so versatile, I have only scratched the surface here. For now, get familiar with some different brands and try them. Find one you like and start using it.
