Phiten: What is it?

While at the UFC Expo in Vegas last month, I got some material on a product that is endorsed by BJ Penn. It is called Phiten. The tag line is "Experience the Energy". What is it? It is a form of titanium that you wear, either in a necklace or a "disc" kind of like a patch. Wearing the titanium is supposed to alleviate pain, counteract fatigue, or recover from a hard workout. They say you will feel results immediately. Hmmmmm. I am a skeptic, no doubt. This sounded ridiculous, quite frankly. Why not try it and see? The guy handing out the samples was super nice (I would hope so!) and he asked me to bend one of my wrists backwards. So I did. He asked if I had any pain or discomfort. Of course I did, that hurts! He asked to point to where I had the most "pain" and he put this titanium laced disc on the spot. Then he asked me to walk around with it for a few minutes and that I should feel a significant difference in the pain level. So I did. I kept bending my wrist back to see if it hurt any less when I did that. I wore the patch all day. By the end of the day I could only tell you this: If it hurts when you bend your wrist backward, stop doing that. However, if you insist on continuing to do it, eventually it doesn't hurt as badly because you have effectively stretched it out. :)

The titanium was fun in theory. If it sounds ridiculous, it generally is. I did see one comment on a chat board that made me laugh.
Who cares if some jock endorses it? The real test will be if Oprah likes it
. Sorry BJ!
